Assistant Director of Histocompatibility Laboratory
We exist to save the lives of everyone who needs a transplant: over a 40-year history, we’ve built a poignant and powerful story, in the UK and globally. The last five years have seen us double the number of transplants and double our turnover: we’ve invested in new scientific technology, strengthened our offer to patients and raised our profile and income as well as delivering vital research which has changed the way blood cancer is treated.
So we’re an ambitious charity in our vision to save the lives of everyone who needs a transplant: we’re now looking for an Assistant Director who shares our commitment to turn this into reality.
This is a particularly exciting time to join our unique and fascinating organisation. As we embark on our new three-year strategy, we need an exceptional H&I professional who thrives as part of a team and who can provide clear direction, rigour and challenge. You will support myself and colleagues in a newly formed Clinical Support Team in the Lab where you will have the opportunity to grow, develop and expand the interaction with our clinical and academic users. A key element of this will be working with the Anthony Nolan Research Institute to deliver key research developments into a clinical setting.
This is a pivotal appointment in our H&I team and the role requires appropriate scientific and clinical qualifications as well as an outstanding track record as a senior leader. Skills in leading and implementing research and development would be valuable, and you will demonstrate both analytical capability and a strong awareness of people leadership and the financial aspects of successful Laboratory management. Crucially, you will be an innovative forward thinker who has real empathy with our mission and work.
As a key member of our Divisional Management Team, you’ll help us achieve our strategy, bolster relations with clinical colleagues and you can be sure that the role you play has a direct bearing on the lives we save. We want to offer the right person an exceptional professional challenge: if you, too, can see our full potential, and if have the skills, experience and qualities we are looking for, we’d love to hear from you.
